Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Councilwoman Jackie Gordon, Councilman Terry McSweeney, Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory and New York State Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre recently attended the Court of Honor ceremony for Nicolas Hernandez of Boy Scouts Troop 284. At the ceremony, Hernandez was named an Eagle Scout. Supervisor Schaffer thanked Hernandez for his commitment to improving his community and wished him luck in his future endeavors.

For his Eagle Scout Project, Hernandez planned and constructed a 12-foot by 12-foot gazebo at Tanner Park in Copiague. The gazebo was dedicated to Joseph Ferriso, a fellow Eagle Scout from Troop 284 and former Hofstra University lacrosse player who died in 2015. The gazebo will provide park visitors with a comfortable place to enjoy the scenic view of the Great South Bay.
