DESCRIPTION:The Coalition’s Reframing Parenting Workshops are a FREE series for parents raising children with trauma or difficult past histories! \nWHERE: 21 Greene Avenue in Amityville \nSpring 2026 Schedule: 04/15 \, 04/22\, 04/29\, 05/6\, 5/13 and 5/20 \nThis curriculum has been adopted and modified by the Adoptive and Foster Family Coalition of New York to help foster\, adoptive and kinship parents nurture attachments with their child.While literally ALL parents (and their children) can benefit from these workshops\, if you are caring for a child who has spent time in foster care or had a difficult past\, including any losses from adoption\, don’t miss this opportunity to really add some vital tools to your toolkit! Of course like all Coalition support services\, Reframing Parenting is FREE! All you have to do is register and show up! \nReframing Parenting is a training curriculum based on Foundations for Attachment Training Resource by Kim Golding\, whose work is turn based on that of Dan Hughes. In adapting this curriculum\, the Coalition has made it most relevant for parents working within New York’s child welfare system. The Coalition has also taken steps to ensure that the training can reach and speak to parents who feel they have tried everything and/or who are struggling to find a better way to connect with and effectively parent their child – and do so in a way that has lasting impact and that can be implemented on a day-in\, day basis within a family. The training is structured to provide ample time for connection between participants with the ancillary goal of having peer support develop out of participation in the training. \nThis parent friendly workshop series is formed by attachment theory and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) and consists of three core modules:* Looking After Self* Understanding Challenges of Parenting* Therapeutic Parenting \nWhat other parents have said about their experiences taking the Reframing Parenting classes: \n“I really appreciated the hosts sharing their own experiences as parents and as caseworkers – it really brought perspective and a feeling of not being alone in this.” \n“All sessions were very informational\, great discussions went along with the topics. Children adopted by relatives or kin may have divided loyalties and difficulty sorting out family dynamics. Children who have been in the foster care system often do not understand the transition from foster care to adoption. Even those who joined their adoptive family shortly after birth may experience feelings of confusion\, ambivalence\, or abandonment.
