The tide’s in, the amps are on.

Something happens on the South Shore in the second week of July: the sun hangs a little longer over the Great South Bay, the decks fill up, and every dock, park and patio seems to sprout a band. This is Babylon in its natural habitat — salt air, cold drinks, and a soundtrack that runs from Beatles harmonies to ’80s New Wave.

This week leans hard into the water. Two free oceanfront concerts at Tanner Park, sunset sets at Tiki Joe’s Captree and The Boat Yard, no-cover nights at the Salt Shack, plus tattoo workshops, toddler art time, music bingo and an Elvis tribute under the village gazebo. Grab your chair, kick off your flip-flops, and let’s ride the week from Monday to Friday.

☀️ Weather Watch: Hot, Hazy & Bay-Breezy

It’s peak summer on Long Island, so plan for classic July heat and humidity. A few notes for the week:

  • 🌡️ Hot & humid all week — think mid-summer highs and sticky evenings. Hydrate, and lean on the bay breeze at the waterfront shows.
  • Midweek pop-up storms possible — typical afternoon/evening thunderstorm chances Wednesday into Thursday. Most shows go on, but keep an eye on the sky for the outdoor concerts.
  • 🎨 Rain plan built in — if it turns wet, the indoor picks (Creative Touch, The Color Palette, Ink Night, Bada Bingo) keep the fun going.

Always double-check with the venue before heading out — summer skies on the Island change fast.

🌊 The Rundown

From the Village of Babylon and Amityville to Lindenhurst, West Babylon, Copiague, Farmingdale and out to Captree and West Gilgo Beach, this week’s calendar is stacked with Live Music, Free Summer Concerts, Arts & Crafts, Food & Drink, Health & Wellness, and Family fun. Live music is the headliner — tribute bands, acoustic duos, New Wave and classic rock — but there’s plenty for the daytime crowd and the kids, too.

Strawberry Fields — Beatles Tribute · Wednesday, July 8 · Tanner Park, Copiague

Come together for the marquee night of the week. As part of the Town of Babylon Free Summer Concert Series, Beatles tribute Strawberry Fields takes the oceanfront stage at Tanner Park on Wednesday evening (around 7:30 PM) and turns the whole park into a sing-along. It’s free, it’s right on the water, and there’s plenty of parking — so pack the chairs, blankets and refreshments, and let the harmonies roll out over the bay. This is the quintessential Babylon summer night, and it won’t cost you a dime.

📰 This Week’s Local News Briefing

Before the fun, a quick catch-up on what’s happening around town. Our latest Babylon Weekend Briefing covers a dramatic North Babylon toddler rescue from a locked car during the heat wave, a toxic blue-green algae advisory closing swimming at the Town Hall Park pond in Lindenhurst, the dedication of a new $777K Harbor Patrol rescue boat, and the opening of Low Tide Bean, a new dockside café on the West Babylon waterfront. 🏖️ Monday, July 6 — Make It a Parks & Beaches Day

No concerts on the calendar Monday? Good — that’s your cue to explore the Town of Babylon’s own backyard. Between the ocean, the bay, the spray parks and the pools, there’s a full day of summer waiting. Here are some ways to spend it (a 2026 Resident Beach Permit gets you into the resident-only spots):

  • 🌊 Hit the ocean beaches. Cedar Beach (open to residents & non-residents, with the Salt Shack right on the sand) and Gilgo Beach are open to all; Overlook Beach is a quieter, residents-only stretch. Entrance booths run 8 AM–4 PM with lifeguards on weekday duty 10 AM–6 PM.
  • Post up on the bay. Tanner Park in Copiague and the 26-acre Venetian Shores Park in Lindenhurst offer calm bay-beach swimming, picnic areas with grills, playgrounds, fishing and boat launches — Venetian Shores even has softball, turf fields, tennis, basketball and a roller-hockey rink.
  • 💦 Cool the kids off at a spray park. All three run daily. Geiger Spray Park (Grand Blvd & W. 23rd St, Deer Park/Wyandanch) is open to the public ($5 residents / $20 non-residents); Tanner (Kerrigan Rd, Copiague) and Venetian Shores (Granada Pkwy, Lindenhurst) spray parks are for residents with a beach permit, 10 AM–6 PM.
  • 🏊 Take a dip at a Town pool. Five resident pools ($5 entry) — including the Phelps Lane Pool in North Babylon with its interactive pool and double water slides, plus pools in West Babylon, Deer Park, North Amityville and North Lindenhurst. Weekdays noon–8 PM.
  • 🌳 Stroll a park or garden. Wind down with a walk around the lake and gardens at Argyle Lake Park in Babylon Village, or find a shady bench and watch the boats roll by.

For hours, permits and the full list of facilities, see the Town of Babylon Parks & Recreation guide.
