Clocks Back, Polls Open, Turkeys on the Table: Everything Happening in November

November starts with an extra hour of sleep and never really slows down. The clocks fell back at 2 AM on Sunday the 1st, which means the sun is going down before 5 PM and the evenings are dark and cold. Election Day is Tuesday the 3rd, Veterans Day is Wednesday the 11th, and Thanksgiving is Thursday the 26th, followed by Black Friday, Small Business Saturday® and Cyber Monday. It is the month the whole town starts getting ready for Christmas, it is the start of small business season for the shops, restaurants and service businesses that keep Babylon running, and it is a month of causes, from No-Shave November to Native American Heritage Month and Diabetes Awareness Month. Here is all of it, and then the 486 events.

🗓️ The Dates to Know

Sun, Nov 1
Fall back. The clocks went back one hour at 2 AM. Enjoy the extra hour, and use the day to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. (Día de los Muertos is Nov 1–2, too.)
Tue, Nov 3
Election Day. Polls in New York are open from 6 AM to 9 PM. Not sure where you vote? Your county Board of Elections can tell you.
Sun, Nov 8
Diwali, the Festival of Lights, observed by Hindu, Sikh and Jain families and celebrated across the Indian and Indo-Caribbean communities on Long Island.
Wed, Nov 11
Veterans Day. Babylon, Amityville and Lindenhurst each hold a ceremony that morning. Times are in the featured events below.
Thu, Nov 26
Thanksgiving. Nothing on our calendar but dinner.
Fri, Nov 27
Black Friday. The mall, or the Great All-Nighter pop-up market in Lindenhurst. You pick.
Sat, Nov 28
Small Business Saturday®. The day to spend it where it stays: the independent shops, restaurants and services right here in town.
Mon, Nov 30
Cyber Monday. Online deals, and the last day of the month. Giving Tuesday follows on December 1.

🧥 Cooler, darker evenings: a word for the kids

With the clocks back, dusk now arrives while kids are still outside, at the bus stop, walking home from practice or riding bikes. Send them out in a coat, a hat and gloves, and give them something bright or reflective to wear. Bikes need lights. Drivers, slow down in the neighborhoods between 4 and 6 PM, because that is when the light is worst and the kids are out.

🎗️ What We Observe in November

October had Breast Cancer Awareness Month. November has a long list of its own, and these are the ones most people know.

No-Shave November and Movember — Put the razor down and put the money toward a cause. No-Shave November raises awareness and funds for cancer research and prevention, and Movember focuses on men’s health, including prostate and testicular cancer and mental health.
Native American Heritage Month — All month, a time to recognize the history, cultures and contributions of Native peoples.
National Diabetes Month — With World Diabetes Day on Saturday the 14th. A good month to get your numbers checked.
Lung Cancer Awareness Month — Capped by the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout on Thursday the 19th, the day set aside for trying to quit.
National Adoption Month and National Family Caregivers Month — Two that deserve more attention: the families who adopt, and the people caring for a parent, a spouse or a child at home.
World Kindness Day — Friday the 13th this year. Pay for the coffee behind you.

🛍️ Shop-Local Season Starts Now, and So Do Our Black Friday Specials

November is also the opening of Small Business Season™, the stretch from now through the New Year when neighbors decide where the holiday money goes. For a local independent business it is the most important stretch of the year, and for us it is where the work gets busy. We will be announcing new things for local businesses over the coming weeks, and on Black Friday, November 27, we are running a Black Friday special across what we do. Here is what is in the lineup.

🏢 The Babylon Local Icon Listing — the headliner
The centerpiece of the whole season. An Icon Listing puts your business on Babylon Local with your photos, your Google reviews, your hours and events, and an AI assistant answering questions around the clock. It is $499 a year with every bonus included ($1,692 in bonus services) through Friday, January 1, 2027. The full details are further down this page.
🌐 A new website
If your website is old, slow or invisible when a neighbor searches for what you sell, the weeks before the holidays are the time to fix it. A new site, built to be found locally, is part of the lineup.
📣 Monthly marketing services
Steady, done-for-you marketing every month, so your business is showing up on Google, on social media and in your neighbors’ inboxes all year, not just when you remember to post.
🎯 Get set up for the last two months of the year
November and December are when local spending peaks. If you want to be ready for it, the time to get your listing, your website and your marketing in order is now, not on December 20th.

Nothing to buy on this page today, and the events guide stays free either way. Watch this space and your inbox on Black Friday for the details. Shop local, and let us help the people you are shopping from.

And that is before we get to the events. There are 486 on the calendar this month, and they are not spread evenly. The first Saturday stacks a tree lighting at Tanger, the Long Island Potato Festival, a comedy festival at the Argyle and Secondhand Serenade at Amityville Music Hall onto a single day. Two turkey trots, the Lindenhurst library’s Local Author Fair and a Saturday craft fair fill the middle of the month, and about four out of five listings are library programs, so the weekdays belong to the libraries and the weekends belong to the town.

📢 The Babylon Local Event Network

This calendar is built every month from what is already public — your website, your Facebook events, the library and village calendars. If we can find it, we list it, free. That also means what we found may not be what you meant.

Check your listing — and send us a photo
If a time, a price, a date or a location is wrong, reply to any of our emails or use the link below and we will correct it the same day. And if your event is still wearing our placeholder image, send the flyer you already post on Facebook — it goes straight onto your listing, and a listing with real artwork is the one that gets clicked.

Running something in December? Send it now and we will carry it twice — once in the December guide and again the week it happens.

See You Out There, Babylon

486 things to do, a first Saturday with four big events in it, three Veterans Day ceremonies, two turkey trots and a holiday season that starts the weekend after Thanksgiving. We keep this page current all month as organizers send changes — so if something moves, check back here before you load the car.

See you around town,
Ryan Williams
