The Town of Babylon officially dedicated its new Harbor Patrol SAFE Boat, The Richard L. Brooks, in honor of the Town Bay Constable and retired NYPD Lieutenant who was killed in the line of duty while serving the Town. The ceremony at Tanner Park Marina came just ahead of one of the busiest boating weekends of the year.
Stronger Protection on the Great South Bay
Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Town Board members, Public Safety Commissioner Gerard “Jerry” Gigante, and Richard Brooks’s widow, Sylvia Brooks, were on hand for the dedication. The new 31-foot vessel strengthens marine public safety on Babylon’s waterways with enhanced search-and-rescue capability, emergency medical transport for two stretcher patients, thermal imaging, and 12-person capacity.
The boat’s name ensures Richard L. Brooks’s lifetime of service to the Town and the law enforcement community continues to inspire those who protect Babylon’s waterways today.
