Babylon Weekend Events: Less Doomscrolling, More Food, Music & Sunshine ~ May 15-17, 2026

This Weekend’s Events Around the Town of Babylon NY: Hantavirus Hype Edition

May 15–17, 2026: Go Outside Before the Algorithm Tries to Quarantine Your Personality

Good news, Babylon: despite the dramatic headlines, nobody has asked us to tape plastic over the windows, panic-buy toilet paper, or cancel Italian food. So until further notice, we are bravely continuing civilization by attending art fairs, farmers markets, live music, waterfront parties, fundraisers, family events, and possibly one extremely necessary clam fest.

Yes, hantavirus is in the news. Yes, it is serious for the people affected. And yes, the media has apparently discovered that many of us still have a full-body nervous twitch whenever anyone says “virus,” “quarantine,” or “monitoring period.” But before we all start doomscrolling in the pantry like it’s 2020 with better Wi-Fi, the official vibe is this: be smart, avoid rodent mess, wash your hands, and maybe don’t let cable news decide whether you enjoy a sunny weekend in Babylon.

In other words: take normal precautions, check official health guidance when needed, and then get out there. The Town of Babylon has a packed weekend, and none of these events require a hazmat suit dress code.

📰 Introduction: Your Weekend Escape from the News Cycle

There are two kinds of people this weekend: people refreshing terrifying headlines like they are trying to win a trauma loyalty card, and people going outside to enjoy Babylon like functioning members of a coastal civilization.

This weekend, the Town of Babylon is loaded with options: art at Argyle, live music by the water, farmers markets, food festivals, charity walks, dog adoption events, garden shows, local shopping, rock tributes, whiskey tastings, family activities, and community gatherings. Basically, if your phone is screaming “new pandemic???” at you, Babylon is politely offering a counterprogramming package called “touch grass, hear music, eat something, support local.”

So take a breath. The official guidance does not say “move into a sealed Netflix pod.” It says use common sense, stay informed, and avoid risky exposure. Conveniently, common sense and local fun can coexist. Revolutionary concept. Someone alert the ratings department.

🧼 Health Reality Check, Because We Are Joking But Not Reckless

Actual serious note before we continue being ridiculous: hantavirus is real and can be dangerous, but the general prevention message is not mysterious. Avoid contact with rodent urine, droppings, saliva, and nesting materials. Clean safely. Don’t stir up dust from rodent-infested areas. And if you believe you had a relevant exposure and develop symptoms, contact a medical professional.

For official information, check the CDC’s hantavirus pages here: CDC Hantavirus Information and CDC Hantavirus Prevention.

Now that we have behaved like adults for six full sentences, let’s return to the sacred mission: planning your weekend so you don’t spend it arguing with strangers in the comments section of an article you didn’t read.

Town of Babylon Italian Food Festival takes over Saturday afternoon with Italian food, music, community energy, and the kind of carbs that make people briefly stop talking about global disease surveillance.

Set for Saturday, May 16 at 12:00 PM in Lindenhurst, this festival features performances by Carmelo Raccuglia, Angelo Venuto, Maria Venuto, and DJ Domenick, plus plenty of food and local flavor. If the news wants fear, Babylon counters with sauce, music, and people arguing lovingly about who makes the best meatballs.

Rain date: Sunday, May 17, 2026.

🎸 Friday, May 15: The Weekend Begins, Please Stop Doomscrolling in the Driveway

Friday starts with useful community support and local business energy. One-on-One Medicare Counseling and Assistance is available by appointment in Copiague, while Body Ritual Pilates Studio Grand Opening brings a ribbon cutting to Farmingdale. Stretch your body, support a new local business, and politely ignore the part of your brain asking if every headline is secretly the opening scene of a disaster movie.

For the evening crowd, Women’s Symposium 2026 offers an empowering night of health, wellness, fitness, speakers, wine, cheese, raffles, and community connection. Meanwhile, Friday Roar’n Pour Happy Hour at Lionz Den in Lindenhurst brings drinks, bites, dinner, late-night food, and a DJ later in the night.

Then the live music cavalry arrives. NITEWORK at Venetian Shores, The Rich Mahogany Band and The Tucker Stevens Band at The Warehouse, Rock of 80s at the Salt Shack, and Panic Attack at RipTides all give you excellent reasons to leave the house. Yes, one of the bands is literally called Panic Attack. The calendar has jokes.

🎨 Saturday, May 16: Markets, Art, Food, Music, and Zero Couch-Based Heroism

Saturday morning comes in hot with wholesome local activity. Amityville PBA 5K starts early, Imperial Cleaning’s Job Fair/Féria de Empleo offers employment opportunities in Amityville, and Art by the Falls brings art, live music, young makers, and Babylon High School artists to Argyle Lake. If your feed is trying to scare you, Argyle is trying to heal you with scenery and local creativity.

Over in Lindenhurst, the Lindenhurst Farmers Market returns with fresh produce, baked goods, crafts, vendors, and that community-market feeling that cannot be replicated by panic-ordering household supplies online. Nearby, the Mayor’s Beautification Society’s Garden Show brings plant sales, flower arranging, native planting, children’s activities, demonstrations, and giveaways. Nature: still undefeated.

Saturday afternoon and evening keep the momentum going. Springtime Sips & Second Chances at Muni’s Coffee Joint mixes coffee, vendors, and adoptable dogs. The Town of Babylon Italian Food Festival brings food and entertainment to Lindenhurst. The Long Island Whiskey and Spirits Fest hits Deer Park, Camporee raises funds for summer camp scholarships, and Glow in the Park – Global Glow turns Wheatley Heights into an illuminated treetop adventure. Somewhere, a news producer is upset you are having fun.

🌊 Sunday, May 17: Walks, Clams, Culture, and One Last Chance to Defeat the Couch

Sunday starts with meaningful community events. The 2026 Long Island Kidney Walk at Belmont Lake State Park brings patients, families, caregivers, and supporters together to raise awareness and funds for kidney disease. The Alex Strong Caregiver Ribbon Movement joins that effort with a powerful message for caregivers: you are not invisible. Also on the move: The Beat Lives On 5K Run/Walk at Venetian Shores.

Then the day gets delicious, weird, useful, and very Babylon. Babylon Clam Fest at Salt Shack Cedar Beach runs from 11 AM to 4 PM, while the Long Island Vegan Pop Up offers plant-based vendors, handmade goods, wellness offerings, music, and a pet-friendly atmosphere. For the animal lovers, Doggie Garage Sale in Lindenhurst helps support shelter dogs and their training needs. Even the dogs are doing community service. Your move, humanity.

For culture and history, the Babylon Historical Society presentation on Jupiter Hammon highlights the life and writing of the first published Black American poet. The Butter Making Demonstration at the Amityville Historical Society brings old-fashioned skills to life. Later, wind down with Chris Devine Acoustic Live at Tres Palms, Come Together at Toomey’s Tavern, or Common Ground Live at The Boat Yard. Sunday scaries? Not if you drown them in waterfront music.

If you go to one of these events, take pictures, tag I Love Babylon, and let people know what is happening around town. The best cure for boring weekends is neighbors actually showing up for each other. The second-best cure is Italian food. We are not doctors, but this feels spiritually accurate.

And if you run a local event, business, fundraiser, market, performance, grand opening, workshop, or suspiciously wholesome community gathering, submit it here: ILoveBabylon.com/add.

Stay local, stay informed, and please stop letting the algorithm raise your blood pressure for free.
