One: there’s a little soccer tournament happening across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and the USMNT just won Group D 2–0 over Australia — their first group-stage title since 2010 — so your cousin who couldn’t find a soccer ball three weeks ago is now explaining “expected goals” to you at a barbecue. Yellow card, sir. Sit down.

Two — and this is the big one — for most kids in the Town of Babylon, the final whistle just blew on the school year. It’s the last week (for a lot of families, the last day) of school. That means slime nights, proms, graduations, caps tossed in the air, and the unmistakable energy of kids who have just been substituted into summer. The freedom is real. The joy is contagious. The actual heroes this weekend aren’t diving in the box to draw a penalty — they’re playing a benefit concert for Sunrise Day Camp, which provides free summer camp for children with cancer and their siblings.
