Babylon This Week: 40+ Things to Do Before Fall Officially Starts

Forty-six events, Monday through Friday. Six libraries opened their fall season at once — and the forecast still thinks it’s summer.

Fall officially starts on September 22nd. Nobody told the forecast. We’ve got sun all five days, highs running from 71 to 79, and not a single washout on the board — the kind of week that makes you want to eat dinner outside and pretend the calendar is a suggestion.

Meanwhile, indoors, our libraries have quietly kicked off their fall program season all at once. Babylon, Copiague, Lindenhurst, West Babylon, Deer Park and Wyandanch are running something like forty programs between Monday and Friday — yoga, quilting, decoupage, Italian storytime, a bilingual women’s group, Medicaid enrollment help, a paint night, and a young-adult cooking class that makes apple pie bread. A lot of it is already waitlisted, which tells you how the town feels about September.

So here’s the week: go outside while it’s holding, and get your name on a list for the good stuff before it fills.

Villages in play this week: Babylon, Lindenhurst, Amityville, Copiague, Deer Park, West Babylon, Wyandanch and the West Gilgo / Tobay shoreline.

Categories running hot: Classes & Workshops (far and away the biggest bucket), Health & Wellness, Arts & Crafts, Live Music, Community & Civic Meetings, and Food & Drink. Monday is the monster — twenty-five separate things happening. Wednesday and Thursday are quiet by comparison. Friday is when the music comes back.

A note on prices: library programs are listed without a fee on their own calendars unless noted, and where a fee is published we’ve named it. Registration status is as of Sunday, September 13 — the waitlists move fast.

Featured Event

Friday Evening Informal Gathering at Tobay

Friday, September 18, 4:00–7:00 PM at The Boat Yard, 1 Ocean Parkway, West Gilgo Beach. No ticket, no registration, no agenda — just the last properly warm Friday of the season on the water, with a 79-degree afternoon behind it. If you only do one thing off this list, do this one. Then, if you’ve still got it in you, Krush plays the same spot at 7:30.

Monday, September 14

Twenty-five things. Genuinely. The libraries opened the fall floodgates and Monday caught most of the water — plus a golf outing at Bergen Point that’s raising money for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which is a very Babylon way to spend a September morning.

Out and about

• ⛳ Charity Golf Outing — 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, Bergen Point Golf Course. 18 holes with a light lunch at the turn, benefiting the Babylon St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
• 🏛️ Village of Amityville Board of Trustees Meeting — 7:00–10:00 PM, Village Hall, 21 Ireland Place, third-floor courtroom. Open to the public.

Babylon Public Library

• 🧘 Gentle Yoga (Sept/Oct) — 11:00 AM–12:00 PM. All-levels mindful yoga: body awareness, strengthening, stretching, breath. Registration and payment required.
• 🎲 Adult Games — 1:00–4:00 PM. Bring your own game, find other players. No registration.
• 🍬 Universal Yums (grades 3–5) — 4:00–5:00 PM. Trivia and snacks from around the world. Currently waitlisted.
• ✨ Energy Protection & Restoration Toolkit — 6:00–7:30 PM. Adult workshop on resetting your energy and understanding spiritual sensitivity. Registration required.

Copiague Memorial Public Library

• 💪 Simply Stronger – Mondays — 11:00 AM–12:00 PM. $3 per class, Copiague cardholders.
• 🔖 Maker Monday: Sublimation Corner Bookmark — 12:00–12:30 PM and again 4:00–4:30 PM. Both sessions currently waitlisted.
• 🪡 Acupuncture, Qi, and Meridians — 1:00–2:30 PM. Traditional Chinese Medicine, explained. Registration required.
• 🇮🇹 Bilingual Beginners: Italian Storytime — 4:30–5:30 PM. Italian-English school-readiness for kids and caregivers.
• 🤝 Mujeres Unidas — 6:30–8:30 PM. Bilingual women’s group: speakers on finances, health and support, plus crafts. All are welcome; registration required.

Lindenhurst Memorial Library

• 🩺 Medicaid Enrollment Assistance (Nassau Suffolk Hospital Council) — 11:00 AM–2:30 PM. Help for eligible adults, children, seniors and people with disabilities. No registration.
• 💬 Meet with a Social Work Intern — 5:00–9:00 PM. 45-minute appointments to help navigate social services.
• 🎨 Decoupaged Wooden Tray — 6:00–8:00 PM. Adults. Registration required.

Tuesday belongs almost entirely to Wyandanch Public Library, which is running five programs from mid-morning straight through the evening — and it’s the best-looking day of the week to walk there, 71 and sunny.

A quiet one — three things on the board, and 75 and sunny outside, so consider this the town’s officially sanctioned day to do nothing in particular.

Thursday, September 17

Also light, and also gorgeous — 78 and mostly sunny. What’s on the calendar is mostly civic: two village boards meeting on the same night, in two different villages. If you’ve got an opinion about something being built near you, this is the evening to go say so.

Looking Ahead to the Weekend

Saturday is stacked: farmers markets in Amityville (9 AM–1 PM) and Lindenhurst (10 AM–2 PM), Drag Bingo at Amityville Music Hall, a quilting workshop and the From Italy with Love concert with Salvatore Chiarelli at Deer Park Library, DJ Mike Torres and That 70’s Band at Salt Shack, WCS at Toomey’s Tavern, and a five-band rock show at Amityville Music Hall. Sunday is looking like a genuine day of rest — nothing on the calendar yet.

Go Outside Before It Turns

Five sunny days in a row is not a thing this town gets in the back half of September very often. The quilting class and the paint night will run again. The 79-degree Friday on the water probably won’t. Plan accordingly, and if you spot something happening that isn’t on our calendar, send it our way — that’s how this thing stays worth reading.
