Group Stage of Summer: Babylon’s World Cup of Weekends
GOOOOOOAL! 🥅 The final school bell just rang, the whole planet is screaming at a television over offside calls, and Babylon is sitting on a 50+ event hat trick with zero VAR reviews and free parking. Back of the net.
Two things are true this weekend. One: there’s a little soccer tournament happening across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and the USMNT just won Group D 2–0 over Australia — their first group-stage title since 2010 — so your cousin who couldn’t find a soccer ball three weeks ago is now explaining “expected goals” to you at a barbecue. Yellow card, sir. Sit down.
Two — and this is the big one — for most kids in the Town of Babylon, the final whistle just blew on the school year. It’s the last week (for a lot of families, the last day) of school. That means slime nights, proms, graduations, caps tossed in the air, and the unmistakable energy of kids who have just been substituted into summer. The freedom is real. The joy is contagious. And the celebration is local.
You don’t need a passport, a $700 ticket, or a working knowledge of the offside rule to lift this trophy. Babylon’s lineup is stacked, the matchups are walkable, and nobody’s getting carried off on a stretcher only to sprint away thirty seconds later. Lace up. Let’s get to the pitch — er, the beach.
☀️ Babylon, NY Weather Forecast
The forecast is subbing in fresh legs as the weekend goes on — a proper second-half surge.
- Friday, June 26: ⛅ High near 76°F. A stray early shower, then partly cloudy. A solid, low-drama opener.
- Saturday, June 27: 🌤️ High near 79°F. Mostly sunny, less humidity. Prime conditions for outdoor everything.
- Sunday, June 28: ☀️ High near 80°F. Increasing sun and beach-perfect. A clean sheet to close the weekend.
Translation: leave the rain jacket on the bench and bring the sunscreen. No injury-time downpours expected.

⚽ Kickoff: Your Weekend Lineup
While the soccer world debates whether Brazil’s group-topping win over Scotland makes them favorites, and Mexico fans celebrate cruising into the knockouts on home soil, Babylon is fielding its own deep bench. We’ve got summer concerts at the Gazebo, a great white shark on a giant beach screen, dueling tribute bands at every waterfront bar from Captree to Cedar Beach, carnivals in two villages, a color run, a holistic festival, a Mustang car show, last-day-of-school celebrations, and a charity concert that’s the real heart of the weekend. That’s not a lineup — that’s a golden-boot contender.
From Babylon Village to Lindenhurst, Amityville, Farmingdale, Copiague, Deer Park, and the Gilgo–Oak Beach strip, here’s everything worth leaving the couch for. School’s out, the sun’s out — consider this your starting XI… plus about forty subs warming up on the touchline. GOAAAL!
🏆 Featured Event of the Weekend
Lovesong for Sunrise — A Concert to Benefit Sunrise Day Camp — Sunday, 3:00 PM, Nutty Irishman, Farmingdale
Forget the GOAT debate. The actual heroes this weekend aren’t diving in the box to draw a penalty — they’re playing a benefit concert for Sunrise Day Camp, which provides free summer camp for children with cancer and their siblings. Lovesong brings the music, you bring the support, and everybody lifts the cup (no penalty shootout required). It’s local, it’s big-hearted, and it’s the one fixture this weekend that genuinely deserves the captain’s armband. If you do one thing off this list, make it this. That’s the kind of goal we all celebrate.
🟢 Friday, June 26 — Group Stage Opener (& the Final Bell!) 🔔
Kickoff! Friday is the last day of school for a ton of local kids, which means the whole town is playing with house money. Like a World Cup opener, it’s about showing up and making a statement — except our “extra time” involves a beach, a movie, and a shark instead of a fourth official holding up a board nobody trusts.
- 🟢 Last Day of School Kids Slime Night — 6:00 PM, The Color Palette, Lindenhurst. School’s out — let the green-and-gooey celebration begin. Pure last-bell joy.
- 🦈 JAWS Movie at Overlook Beach — 8:45 PM. A free outdoor screening of the greatest “watch out behind you” film ever made, on an actual beach. Red cards have nothing on a great white. Bring a blanket.
- 🎤 Town of Babylon Summer Concerts: The Blend — 8:00 PM, Babylon Village Gazebo. Free live music under the stars. The only “group stage” with dancing.
- 🎸 Electric Dudes at the Lindenhurst Summer Concert Series — 7:00 PM, Lindenhurst Village Square. Hometown crowd, no away kit required.
- 🎪 St. Martin of Tours Carnival — 5:00 PM. Rides, food, and games of skill that are somehow harder than a World Cup penalty.
- 🎶 Petty People at The Warehouse LI — 8:00 PM, Amityville. A Tom Petty tribute, because some legends don’t need VAR to confirm greatness.
- 🕺 I Love R&B Party at Amityville Music Hall — 8:00 PM.
- 🥁 Traditional Jazz with the Paumanok Stompers — 7:30 PM, Charlotte’s Speakeasy.
- 🎸 More on the pitch: Touch the 80s at The Salt Shack (7:00 PM), That 70’s Band at Gilgo, and Hard Drive Lite at the Yacht Club.

🔵 Saturday, June 27 — Knockout Round
Win or go home. Saturday brings the big fixtures: a color run, a carnival, a cheese wheel the size of a soccer ball, and roughly nine tribute bands competing for your evening. No third-place teams sneaking through here — just pure local talent and a packed touchline. Bend it like Babylon.
- 🌈 Lindy Cares Color Run — 9:00 AM. A 5K where the only “yellow card” is the powder they throw at you. For a good cause, too.
- 🧀 Grana Padano Wheel Cutting at Uncle Giuseppe’s — 1:00 PM, North Babylon. The only “wheel” in sport we actually endorse.
- 🎡 Amityville Carnival — 5:00 PM. Lights, fried dough, and zero stoppage time.
- 🧺 Lindenhurst Farmers Market — 10:00 AM. Local produce, crafts, and small businesses — buy local, score local.
- 🎸 Let It Bleed (Stones tribute) at The Nutty Irishman — 7:00 PM, Farmingdale. You can’t always get what you want, but you can get a hat trick of a Saturday.
- 🎶 Vinyl Revival (7:00 PM, Babylon), Crush (7:00 PM), and Mean Machine (7:30 PM) all bringing the noise at the Gilgo–Ocean Parkway beach bars.
- 🎷 The Rustlers at Copiague Library Summer Concerts — 3:00 PM. Free, family-friendly, country flavor.
- 🏍️ Edgewood Preserve Group Ride — 9:30 AM. Mountain biking, no diving allowed.

🟠 Sunday, June 28 — The Final
The trophy match. Sunday goes long and goes deep: a car show, a craft fair, a holistic festival, a Beatles-and-Elvis boat cruise, and a charity concert that’s the real lift-the-cup moment. Leave it all on the pitch. GOOOOOAL!
- 🏆 Lovesong for Sunrise (Benefit Concert) — 3:00 PM, Nutty Irishman. Our Featured Event and the weekend’s true champion.
- 🚗 Mustang Magic & Suffolk Stangs Car Show — 10:00 AM, Deer Park. Horsepower over header power.
- 🚢 The Day Trippers and Elvis Cruise — 2:00 PM, Moon Chaser Bay Tours. Beatles and Elvis tributes on the water. The only “cruise” control you need.
- 🎨 Farmingdale Craft Fair — 10:00 AM, Main Street. Handmade goods and food, no scalpers in sight.
- 🔮 Empowered Summer Holistic Festival — 12:00 PM, Deer Park. Reiki, readings, and good vibes only.
- 🌊 Tiger Rose at Tanner Park (5:00 PM, Copiague) and Victims of Rock at Tiki Joe’s Captree (5:30 PM) close out the waterfront.
- 🌕 Full Moon Beach Ceremony — 6:00 PM, Cedar Overlook Beach. The most peaceful “final whistle” imaginable.

📣 Final Whistle
The rest of the world can argue about extra time, group-stage tiebreakers, and whether the 48-team format ruined everything. We’ll be at the beach, at the Gazebo, at a graduation party, and at a benefit concert that actually matters — no scarves, no flopping, no penalty heartbreak. School’s out, the sun’s out, and Babylon advances. GOOOOOAL! Tell a friend, bring a neighbor, toss your cap, and we’ll see you out there.
