Ahead of Memorial Day Weekend, the Town of Babylon hosted a pediatric drowning prevention and water safety event at Tanner Park in Copiague. Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer, and members of the Town Board joined representatives from Good Samaritan University Hospital, Suffolk County Fire, Rescue & Emergency Services, and Suffolk County EMS to share water safety tips with families.

Drowning remains one of the leading causes of accidental death among young children. The event gave parents and caregivers practical guidance on preventing water-related tragedies through active supervision, swim education, and emergency preparedness — timed right as families head into pool and beach season.
