Summer isn’t over. But it just heard the two-minute warning.
Labor Day is next Monday, which makes this the last full week of summer in the Town of Babylon — the victory lap, the encore, the part of the fireworks show where they stop pacing themselves. Thirty-five events are on the calendar between Monday and Friday, and the town clearly read the moment.
Wyandanch Public Library is throwing three free End of the Summer Celebration Concerts — Wednesday, Thursday, AND Friday nights — closing the season with a steel drum reggae band, which is legally the most summer thing you can do in a library parking lot. The Salt Shack has live music four nights straight. A brand-new First Friday Author Series kicks off at Jack Jack’s Coffee House. And in between: chamber meetings, chair yoga, mahjong, a Revolutionary-spies lecture, and a deep dive into the history of Pilgrim State Hospital.
One honest note before you plan: the middle of the week is damp. Conveniently, the libraries are stacked exactly those three days. The calendar knew.
🌤️ This Week’s Weather (Babylon, NY)
- Monday 8/31: Mostly sunny, high near 78. Showers likely late overnight — the day itself is a keeper.
- Tuesday 9/1: Showers likely, possible thunderstorms after 5 PM. High near 82. An indoor-plans kind of evening.
- Wednesday 9/2: Chance of showers 8 AM–2 PM, mostly cloudy, high near 79. Evening thunderstorm chance — have a Plan B for the outdoor stuff.
- Thursday 9/3: 50% chance of showers, mostly cloudy, high near 80. Almost everything on the calendar is indoors anyway.
- Friday 9/4: Mostly sunny, high near 79. Summer’s closing argument, delivered in full sunshine.

🗺️ The Rundown
This week’s 35 events stretch across Babylon Village, Lindenhurst, Wyandanch, Amityville, West Babylon, Captree, and the beaches at Cedar Beach and Robert Moses. Live music carries the week — the Salt Shack alone books four straight nights — while the libraries in Lindenhurst, Wyandanch, and West Babylon carry nearly everything else: fitness classes, kids’ programs, history lectures, food distributions, and free concerts. Add a chamber meeting, a village court session, an ARB meeting, and a drug take-back, and you’ve got community, entertainment, music, food & drink, library programs, health & wellness, and civic life all represented in summer’s final full week.

Three Free Nights of Live Music at Wyandanch Public Library — Wed, Thu & Fri
Wyandanch Public Library is refusing to let summer go quietly, and honestly, respect. Three consecutive nights, three free concerts, all starting at 7 PM: Chris Vega and Power on Wednesday, Master Blendz doing The Sound of Philadelphia on Thursday, and the Dave & Dave Steel Drum Band closing it out with reggae on Friday. Steel drums on the last Friday night of summer, for free — if you can hear a steel drum and not feel like you’re on vacation, see a doctor. This is the send-off song.
