What the Heck is a Roper Romp?! (Spoiler: It’s Fabulous—and for a Good Cause)

8 June 2025

So there I was, casually scrolling through the ILoveBabylon.com Events Calendar last week when I saw something that made me do a double-take:

“Babylon’s 2nd Annual ROPER ROMP – Bar Crawl & Fundraiser.”

Roper… Romp?
Was it a 5K? A wrestling match? A line dancing competition?
I had no idea. But it was happening on Saturday, June 7th, and I made a mental note to keep an eye on it.

WELL.
The photos started trickling in Sunday morning and OH. MYYYY.
I finally get it.

The “Roper Romp” is not just an event—it’s a MOVEMENT.

A glitter-soaked, caftan-clad, absolutely fabulous movement. Inspired by the legendary Mrs. Roper from Three’s Company, this bar crawl/fundraiser combo took over Babylon Village in a blaze of psychedelic prints, curly red wigs, and giant costume jewelry.

I’m talking full ‘70s realness.
Kaftans in every color of the rainbow.
Men, women, and everyone in between strutting like it was Studio 54.
And wow…they were COMMITTED.

🕺 The Stops:

  • 2:00 PM – Post Office Café
  • 3:30 PM – Del Fuego
  • 5:00 PM – Mary Carroll’s

And somewhere in between? Drag performances by the electric Ivy Stalls, raffle baskets, drink specials, conga lines, and—most importantly—donations pouring in for PFY (Pride For Youth).

Big shoutout to @verasweeney for sharing video footage that truly brought the Roper Romp to life. We had no idea what we were missing!

💖 People danced.
💋 People donated.
🍸 People looked AMAZING.

And it all went to a cause that truly matters. PFY provides mental health resources, crisis support, and community to young LGBTQ+ individuals on Long Island. So underneath all the sequins and silliness? Real, beautiful impact.

Consider me schooled.
The Roper Romp isn’t just a bar crawl. It’s a celebration of self-expression, camp, community, and charity. Come and knock on our door!
