🦴 Local Support, National Impact
Amityville, NY – On the surface, it’s just a dog and a veteran. But look closer, and you’ll see a powerful bond that rebuilds confidence, heals invisible wounds, and restores independence. Thanks to a generous donation from Long Island-based L.E.B. Electric, that bond is now possible for more veterans in our community and beyond.
L.E.B. Electric, one of Long Island’s premier electrical contractors, has stepped up to support Canine Companions’ Veterans Initiative — a heart-centered program providing expertly trained service dogs at no cost to veterans living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
With this donation, L.E.B. Electric is funding two “To-Go Canine Care Kits,” which are given to veterans alongside their new service dogs. These kits include:
- Food and feeding supplies
- Grooming tools
- Toys and bedding
- Flea, tick, and heartworm medications
- A certified service dog vest for public access
And the best part? Veterans don’t pay a penny.
🧠 Why Service Dogs Matter for PTSD
Veterans transitioning back to civilian life often face emotional and physical challenges. For those with PTSD, even simple daily tasks can feel overwhelming. That’s where Canine Companions steps in.
Their highly trained service dogs assist with:
- Retrieving dropped items
- Opening doors
- Assisting with prosthetics
- Alerting individuals with hearing impairments to important sounds
But their biggest gift? Unconditional companionship and emotional support — the kind that reminds veterans they’re never alone.
🗣️ A Word From the Donor
“Canine Companions does extraordinary work by providing highly trained service dogs to our nation’s heroes,” said William Parker, President of L.E.B. Electric. “We’re honored to help supply Canine Care Kits so that veterans can begin their journey with their new companions without financial burden.”
Parker’s sentiment reflects a growing movement in Long Island and across the nation — a renewed focus on supporting veterans in tangible, transformative ways.
