TO: All Residents of the Town of Babylon  |  RE: Your Weekend Assignment

MEMORANDUM — EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. Pursuant to Section 631 of the Great South Bay Code of Good Times, the Department of Good Times has reviewed the weekend of July 10–12 and reached a unanimous decision: there is entirely too much happening for anyone to stay home. Live music at every waterfront bar, a Maine-lobster truck, three separate villages throwing America a 250th birthday party, a fishing tournament that starts before sunrise, and a goth night. Participation is expected. Failure to party may result in acute, untreatable FOMO.

This is a big one, so we’ve filed the full report below. Please review your assignments, notify your crew, and report to the nearest waterfront, tavern, park, or gazebo at the designated time. The Department thanks you for your cooperation and reminds you that everything’s better together.

Weather Advisory (Issued by the Department of Good Times, Meteorology Division)

  • Friday 7/10 — Partly sunny, high near 85°. A 30% chance of a pop-up shower or thunderstorm after 2 PM. Translation: mostly a green light, but keep one eye on the sky for the evening waterfront shows.
  • Saturday 7/11 — Partly sunny, high near 81°. A stray morning shower is possible before 2 PM, then it dries out. Afternoon and evening plans are cleared for takeoff.
  • Sunday 7/12 — Sunny and gorgeous, high near 82°. The Department has classified this as a Perfect Long Island Day. No excuses. Sunscreen is mandatory; complaining is prohibited.

The Rundown — Villages & Departments Reporting for Duty

Field offices are active this weekend in Babylon Village, Lindenhurst, Copiague, Deer Park, Amityville, Farmingdale, West Babylon, Wyandanch, Wheatley Heights, Captree, and out at Kismet on Fire Island. Approved activity categories include: Live Music (a truly excessive amount), America’s 250th celebrations (three villages, count ’em), Food & Drink (lobster trucks, chicken BBQ, a Taste of Italy), Family & Kids, Fitness & Wellness, Fishing, Theater, and Nightlife. Choose your own adventure — or, per Department guidance, choose several.

America’s 250th Parking Lot Party — American Legion Post #94, Babylon — Sunday, 1 PM

The Department has designated this the marquee event of the weekend, and for good reason: it’s free, open to the public, and unapologetically all-American. American Legion Post #94 takes over the municipal lot behind Grove Place for a family-filled afternoon of live music, barbecue, and activities for the kids — all while celebrating 250 years of the U.S.A. and supporting our veterans. Live music runs the afternoon with the Tucker Stevens Band & American Ride hitting the stage around 3 PM. Bring the kids, bring the pups, bring the friends. (Rain date on file for 7/26, but see the sunny forecast above — the Department isn’t worried.)

Friday, July 10 — Live Music & Lobster Detail 🎸🦞

The Department opens the weekend with a full slate. Waterfront bands, an emo sing-along, and — yes — a Maine lobster truck. Please pace yourselves.

Sunday, July 12 — Dawn Fishing to Sunset Reggae 🎣🌅

Sunday’s forecast is flawless, and the schedule agrees. It starts before dawn with a fishing tournament, rolls through the big Legion 250th party, and closes with waterfront reggae and a surprise ’80s dance set. The Department strongly recommends staying out until the sun goes down.
