Local Events Around the Town of Babylon ~ Aug 14–16, 2026
Welp. Fire Up the Grill, Folks.
*slaps both thighs*
Alright — who’s ready to rock and roll? Because I’ve looked at this calendar six ways from Sunday, and I’m just gonna come right out and say it: Saturday has fifteen events on it. Fifteen. It opens with a banjo at noon and closes with fireworks over the ocean, and somewhere in the middle there’s a fire truck your kid is allowed to climb on.
Long story short — you’re not going anywhere this weekend. And that’s the whole point. No airport. No rental car. No fella at the counter telling you the “compact” you reserved is actually a minivan with 90,000 miles on it. Just a cooler, a folding chair, and about thirty-one reasons to stay right here in the Town of Babylon.
Here’s the thing. This is what a staycation is supposed to look like.
☀️ The Forecast (I Checked It Twice)
- Friday, Aug 14 — Mostly sunny, high 85°. It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity.
- Saturday, Aug 15 — Sunny, 82°. Not a cloud. Holy cow, would you look at that.
- Sunday, Aug 16 — 81°, then showers and thunderstorms roll in later. Good — we needed this. But front-load your day, because I’m telling you, not asking you.
Anywho. Onward.

⭐ The Big Ones
🪕 Long Island Bluegrass & Roots Music Festival (24th Annual)
Saturday, Aug 15 · 12:00–7:00 PM · Tanner Park, Copiague · $20 (kids 11 & under free, free parking). Twenty-four years they’ve been doing this. Twenty-four! Two stages, all afternoon, headlined by Andy Falco’s Bluegrass Laboratory — and before anybody says “who?”, the man plays guitar with the Infamous Stringdusters, they’ve got a Grammy, and he’s a Long Island kid. So there. How do you like them apples?
Also on the bill: Michael Daves & Jacob Jolliff, The Feinberg Brothers, Muriel Anderson, Brother Pluckers, and Fairchild & Becherer. There are workshops. There is an open jam area where anybody can walk up and play. Twenty bucks and the kids get in free — you can’t beat that with a stick. If you’ve got a banjo in the closet that hasn’t seen daylight since the Clinton administration, well. That’s a horse of a different color, isn’t it. Bring it.
🎆 Overlook Beach Family Day — Beach Blast
Saturday, Aug 15 · 10:00 AM–5:00 PM · Overlook Beach · FREE PARKING. Read that last part again. Free parking. At the beach. In August. I’ll wait.
Thirty-second year of this thing: games, rides, face painting, and a hot dog eating contest — which, and I want to be clear, I am not entering, because this ain’t my first rodeo and I know exactly how that ends. Somethin’ Fresh plays live at 6, and then fireworks at dusk right over the water. Get there early, get your spot, and when you do, turn to whoever you brought and say it: “Good thing we got here when we did.” It’s tradition.
🚒 Kids Touch-a-Truck Festival
Saturday, Aug 15 · 10:00 AM–1:00 PM · 155 Farmingdale Road (Route 109). Fire trucks. Diggers. Every big loud machine a kid dreams about, and they’re allowed to honk the horns. You will hear about this for three weeks. You will be shown the photos at dinner. Worth every minute.
🎒 Back to School Bash & Backpack Giveaway
Saturday, Aug 15 · 12:00–2:00 PM · 152 The Arches Circle, Deer Park. Free backpacks. Not “free with purchase.” Not “free ninety-nine.” Actually free. Hate to burst your bubble, but school is coming whether we discuss it or not — so we may as well go get a backpack and a hot dog out of the deal.
🎶 Gazebo Concert Series: Grand Blvd Band
Friday, Aug 14 · 8:00 PM · Babylon Village Gazebo · FREE. Sixties hits at the Gazebo on a gorgeous night. Groovy. Right on. That’s the whole review.

Let’s ease into it. Grand Blvd Band plays the Village Gazebo for free at 8, The Reckoning takes the Bay Jam out of Captree, and there’s a band at just about every bar from Deer Park Avenue clear out to West Gilgo. Vacation Bible School wraps up its week over in Amityville — and to the parents who did that drop-off five mornings straight: teamwork makes the dream work.

🪕 Saturday, Aug 15
Okay. Hold your horses, because this is the big one. Fifteen events, eighty-two degrees, not a cloud in the sky. Start at Touch-a-Truck or the Lindenhurst Farmers Market at 10 — get there early, the good tomatoes go like hotcakes. Grab a free backpack at the Back to School Bash at noon. Then you’ve got a decision to make, and it’s a doozy: banjos at Tanner Park, or the Beach Blast at Overlook that ends in fireworks.
Now, I’m not gonna tell you how to live. But the Bluegrass runs till 7 and the fireworks go off at dusk. I’m not saying you can do both. I’m just saying I’ve seen a man do both, and he had a real good day.

🌤️ Sunday, Aug 16
Storms are coming in later, so we’re not putting the cart before the horse here — front-load the day. The Babylon Village Farmers Market opens at 8 at the Gazebo. Then the bay takes over: Radio FlashBack’s 70s Love Boat Cruise sails out of Captree and The Blend throws a dock party at Tiki Joe’s.
And when the rain finally shows up around dinnertime? You say what we always say: good, we needed this. Then you go inside and rest your eyes. You’re not sleeping. You’re resting your eyes.

Welp — Time to Hit the Dusty Trail
Thirty-one events. One perfect Saturday. A sky full of fireworks and a banjo festival that’s older than most of the people who’ll be dancing at it.
You didn’t need a plane ticket. You needed a cooler, a folding chair, and somebody to tell you where to be. That’s what this is for.
Now get out there. And hey — not gonna get far without these. 🔑
See you around town,
Ryan Williams
